We spent the second week of our Netherlands 18 trip at the place that’s starting to feel like our second home, Duinrell. We’ve been going to Duinrell for quite a few years now. There’s many reasons why we go, one of which is the proximity of places like Madurodam.
The Dutch are renowned for their skills at reclaiming land and controlling the sea, they’ve been doing it for centuries. Anyone with a basic knowledge of Dutch geography will know that much of the land in The Netherlands is below sea level, and is protected by dikes, keeping the sea at bay. While staying at Bovenkarspel, we decided to spend a day at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. The purpose of the Zuiderzee Museum is to preserve the cultural heritage and maritime history of the old Zuiderzee region. Continue reading “Netherlands 18: A day at the Zuiderzee Museum”
