For the second year of the HSBC sponsored Let’s Ride event, we were treated to a completely new route. For the past few years, the route has gone from the city centre to Salford Quays. With the news last year that the sponsorship deal between Sky and British Cycling was ending, there was some doubt about whether there’d be any more city rides in Manchester. The 2016 Sky Ride marks the end of Sky Ride events in Manchester, with the Sky / British Cycling partnership that started in 2008, now coming to an end.
It’s two years since I last did the Sky Ride. Last year we were away in The Netherlands having an altogether more pleasant bike experience. There were fourteen of us heading there this year, including five kids, so we decided to do our own Critical Mass. Safety in the numbers and all that.
