The Crab and Winkle Way, a walking and cycling route from Canterbury to Whitstable

As I’ve mentioned in previous Kent posts, whenever we’re down in the county visiting family, I usually try to fit in some rides. That was the case for the October 2024 half term, where in addition to the usual rides around Maidstone, I was able to do a ride along the Crab and Winkle Way, starting in Canterbury.

Riding the Bristol and Bath Railway Path

Our trip to Bath really wouldn’t have been complete without a ride along the famous Bristol and Bath Railway Path. The history of this trailblazing traffic-free route is very much tied up with the history of Sustrans, who initially developed it back in 1979 and active travel campaigning in the UK.

Riding the Bath Two Tunnels Greenway

The Bath Two Tunnels Greenway wasn’t something we knew about before arriving in Bath. It was thanks to a couple of helpful suggestions on Twitter that we came to find out about it. On reading more about the route, it sounded perfect for us and wasn’t too far from where we were staying.

Back on the Bridgewater Way and Trans Pennine Trail – March 2017

Almost as if to plan, the first weekend after the start of spring arrived with glorious sunshine. So it’d be wrong not to get out on the bikes with the family and some friends. This is first ride we’ve had for a while as family, rubbish weather and busy weekends have meant we’ve not had chance.

On a cold, but dry Saturday, we headed out for a ride down the Bridgewater Way and Trans Pennine Trail. Three families, five kids and nine bikes, we made our way from Stretford to Wythenshawe Park.
