For anyone familiar with my older posts about Stretford may remember proposals for Kingsway, way way back in 2015. These were part of the public realm scheme put forward by the old Tory exec, that saw most of the subways filled at the junction with the A56, making an absolute pig’s ear of the junction and not much else.

I’ve now received the final drawings for the Stretford public realm improvements, as well as the Stage 2 Road Safety Audit. In keeping with the whole consultation, these have only become available after work has already started and don’t appear to have been published anywhere or shared publicly. As of 18 April 2017, work has commenced on phase 1 of Trafford Council’s Stretford public realm scheme. The scheme will see the closure of three of the four subways and will add an additional right turn lane onto Edge Lane for motor traffic. Further details in this post from July 2016. I’m a resident of Stretford, and I’ve been following Trafford Council’s proposals for the public realm around Stretford for some time.
As someone who regularly passes through Didsbury and Parrs Wood, on my way to Cheadle as part of my commute. I’ve been watching the progress of the Mersey Valley and Stockport Cycleway, and have previously posted my impressions of the Stockport Cycleway.
To start with, I must say, I’m more than pleased to see actual real cycle infrastructure being installed in Manchester. I’d be even more pleased if it were installed where I live. But hey ho, you live and hope.

At this month’s Trafford Cycle Forum, WSP presented the proposals for Stretford public realm that they and Gillespies have been working on with Trafford Council.
