On Sunday, we happened to be in Longford Park while Simply Cycling were running one of their all ability cycling sessions at the stadium, so we decided to go in and see what was happening.
In many ways, Darley Avenue in Chorlton-cum-Hardy is your typical Manchester street. It consists of mostly decent quality, semi-detached, inter-war social housing with a good amount of outside space. There’s been some recent new development on the site of an old school, consisting of smaller houses with less outdoor space. There is also a primary school, Barlow Hall Primary School, next to the new development.

Now, there isn’t much I agree with Richard Leese when it comes to roads, particularly the recent comments that have been attributed to him on cycling infrastructure. But one thing I do agree with is on the current state of the roads in Manchester.

As someone who regularly passes through Didsbury and Parrs Wood, on my way to Cheadle as part of my commute. I’ve been watching the progress of the Mersey Valley and Stockport Cycleway, and have previously posted my impressions of the Stockport Cycleway.
To start with, I must say, I’m more than pleased to see actual real cycle infrastructure being installed in Manchester. I’d be even more pleased if it were installed where I live. But hey ho, you live and hope.

On the Saturday just gone, I paid my first visit to the Platt Fields Bike Hub, to help out with fixing bikes as part of the Rolling Through Winter event. I don’t often go to Platt Fields, as I don’t live locally. The times I have been there in recent years, it has been when the bike hub has been shut, so I’ve not had chance to see what’s going on.
On 19 January, I joined a number of people at the Normalising Cycling workshop at the always pleasant Popup Bikes. Seriously, if you’ve not already been to Popup Bikes, and you like cycling and coffee, you should definitely stop by for a visit.
This weekend we had a family visit to York, mainly for another trip to the rather good National Railway Museum, which the kids always enjoy. While I didn’t get chance to ride in York myself, I did notice a few things about cycling in the city.
