Progress on the Wilmslow Road Cycleway – October 2015

After I finished on the Fallowfield Loop today, I headed along Wilmslow Road into Manchester to have a look at progress on the Wilmslow Road Cycleway.

There’s been much publicity about the supposed ‘Dutch-style’ bus stop bypass installed near Whitworth Park. This is definitely progress compared to what we’re used to in Manchester, though it’d fall well short of Dutch standards. The bus stop bypass is part of the Wilmslow Road Cycleway and is one of thirteen that are due to be installed.

The work in progress looks promising, though it’s probably too early to say. The devil’s in the detail as they say. And it’s the details, such as priority at junctions that will determine whether the cycleway is a success.

More details on the Wilmslow Road Cycleway can be found on Manchester City Council’s Better by cycle site.
